Hey Lykkers, have you ever stood on solid ground, looked up at the sky, and thought, “Could I actually go skydiving?” Whether we're teenagers chasing a thrill, parents ticking off a bucket list, or grandparents still full of curiosity, that question comes up a lot.

And the biggest thing holding many of us back isn't fear—it's wondering if we're even allowed to try it. So today, let's clear up the sky (literally) and talk about age limits for skydiving.

There Is a Minimum Age

First things first, yes, there is a minimum age for skydiving. In most countries, the standard age is 18 years old. That's especially true for places like the U.S., Canada, and many parts of Europe. Why 18? It's mainly about legal responsibility. Since skydiving requires signing a detailed waiver and understanding some risk, many drop zones want to make sure we're legally old enough to make that decision ourselves. Even if parents are supportive, most companies still won't take anyone under 18.

What About Kids? Are There Exceptions?

This might surprise you, Lykkers—yes, in some rare cases, children under 18 can go skydiving. But it depends on the country and the company. For example, New Zealand allows kids as young as 16 years old to skydive with parental consent. Some places in South Africa and a few adventure parks in the UAE also allow younger jumpers under very strict rules. But these are the exception, not the norm. So if your teen is asking for a birthday jump, check your local rules and always ask the skydive center directly.

And Is There a Maximum Age?

Now here's the fun part—there's no upper age limit! That's right. As long as we're healthy enough to jump, we can go skydiving at any age. There are many inspiring stories out there of people jumping at 80, 90, even 100 years old. Some do it for fun, some for charity, and some just because “Why not?” One British woman celebrated her 100th birthday with a tandem skydive, and a California man did his first jump at 96!

But Health and Fitness Matter More Than Age

While age doesn't stop us from skydiving, our physical condition plays a big role. Before jumping, we'll usually fill out a health questionnaire. If we have heart conditions, mobility issues, or certain medical treatments, it's best to get a doctor's approval first. We don't have to be super sporty, but we do need to be able to lift our legs for landing and follow some simple instructions during freefall. It's more about general mobility and safety than having a young body.

What About Tandem Skydiving?

For most first-time jumpers, tandem skydiving is the way to go. That means we're strapped to a trained instructor who controls the parachute and handles the landing. It's a safe and exciting way to experience the skies. Most tandem centers use weight limits (often around 220 pounds or 100 kilograms) to make sure everything's safe for both the jumper and instructor. But again—there's no strict age limit. If we're fit and confident, we're good to go!

Tips for First-Time Skydivers of Any Age

If you or someone you love is thinking of jumping for the first time, here's what we recommend:

• Check local rules – Age limits can vary by location.

• Talk to your doctor – Especially if you're over 60 or have health concerns.

• Start with a tandem jump – It's beginner-friendly and super safe.

• Dress comfortably – Athletic clothes and closed shoes are a must.

• Go with a certified company – Make sure they're licensed and reviewed by others.

Let's Take the Leap, Lykkers!

So, Lykkers, now you know—skydiving doesn't have a one-size-fits-all age rule. Whether we're just turning 18 or enjoying retirement, as long as we're physically ready, the sky is wide open for us. Age shouldn't limit our adventures. So maybe the next time you're staring at a plane zooming across the sky, you'll be thinking, “Why not me?”
